ABOUT US

Students helping students

PALS stands for “Peer Assistance, Leadership, and Service.” The PALS Program is a peer-helping program in which selected high school students are trained to work as peer facilitators with younger students. The goal of PALS students is to model good choices, decisions, leadership, and behaviors in order to promote a positive and productive school experience for these elementary school students, for their peers, and for the larger community. The PALS work closely with neighborhood elementary schools as well as other community and school programs to reach this goal.

In class, you will learn leadership skills and the basics of working with children. About 2 months into the program, you will be matched with two individual students at two nearby elementary schools-- your PALees. Twice a week during class, we go to these schools and work with the students on social and academic skills. Through the year, you will build strong mentor bonds with your student, helping to foster their growth while also taking a break from the pressure of regular school. If you have any questions about PALs, feel free to contact us for more information!
